On May 14, the Orthopedic Surgical Robot Summit Forum was successfully held at the 87th China International Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF). This forum is co-hosted by Shanghai Jiaotong University Medical Robot Research Institute, Shanghai Medical Robot Technology Innovation Center and Shanghai Jiaotong University Alumni Association Medical Device Branch, Sinopharm Reed Exhibitions Co., Ltd., Shanghai Nanbinjiang Investment Development Co., Ltd., Shanghai Huigu Gao Co-organized by Technology Entrepreneurship Center. The forum was chaired by Zheng Guoyan, deputy dean of the Institute of Medical Robotics of Shanghai Jiaotong University.
With the theme of "Innovative Intelligent Orthopedic Surgical Robot", this forum invited more than 20 well-known domestic experts and colleagues in the field of medical robotics to gather together to share insights and discuss the future development of orthopedic surgical robots in terms of technological innovation, clinical application and industrial transformation. , attracted hundreds of professionals from the medical device industry and medical institutions to attend. The forum will be broadcast live simultaneously on multiple platforms.
At the beginning of the forum, Luo Dajin, deputy secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Work Party Committee and director of the Municipal Science and Technology Commission, Zhu Xinyuan, member of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Jiaotong University Party Committee and vice president, and Cheng Minghe, vice chairman of Mindray Medical and president of the Shanghai Jiaotong University Alumni Association Medical Device Branch, delivered opening speeches respectively. Congratulations on the successful convening of this forum and good expectations for the development of the orthopedic surgery robot track were expressed.
At the meeting, the Institute of Medical Robotics of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and Privilege Medical (Hong Kong) Limited held a signing ceremony to jointly establish a university-level joint laboratory for medical robotics. Based on the current status of China's research in surgical robotics, the two parties are guided by national strategic needs and major tasks, bringing together the interdisciplinary strengths of Shanghai Jiao Tong University to carry out joint research, promote the development of original robotics, explore new industrial transformation mechanisms, and achieve core technology breakthroughs and technology transformation with international influence.
During the conference, Wang Shuxin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Chongqing University, gave a presentation entitled "Exploration and Development Trend of Robotic Telesurgery Technology", which explored the challenges faced by telesurgery and the design methods of telesurgery robots and other technical and clinical application models. He believed that a breakthrough in telesurgery technology is crucial and that the industry needs to build a new development logic to promote the development of telesurgery technology. Only in this way can surgical robots truly solve the problem of unbalanced and inadequate development in the medical industry and meet the patients' desire for better health.
Lin Jin, Chief Physician of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, gave a presentation entitled "The Evolution and Innovation of Orthopaedic Intelligence", describing the overall process of product innovation from the perspective of application innovation, from clinical demand screening, robot value creation, to medical innovation application evaluation. From the perspective of clinicians, he discussed the importance of innovation around clinical needs in the process of product development and clinical implementation. He argues that surgical robot development should not be limited to getting the surgery right, but should be oriented towards good, durable and easy to use through extensive collaboration with doctors, avoiding problems of poor product reliability and stability, and ultimately realising a closed loop of the whole process.
At the meeting, Zhang Changqing, Vice President of the Sixth People's Hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhu Yue, Vice President of the First Hospital of China Medical University, Ye Xiaojian, Director of the Department of Orthopaedics of Shanghai Tong Ren Hospital and Vice President of Hongqiao International Medical Research Institute, Shen Hongxing, Chief Physician of Spine Surgery of Renji Hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, and Zheng Guoyan, Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Medical Robotics Institute, focused on joint replacement/ The guests had an in-depth exchange and discussion on issues related to the clinical application of s
pinal surgery robots.
The guests agreed that orthopaedic robot-assisted surgery is an important innovation to alleviate the current shortage of doctors' resources, with the advantages of less trauma, higher precision, lower learning curve and standardised surgical operations. The precise, digital and intelligent means of orthopaedics will become a new profitable growth point for orthopaedics and is a major trend in the industry. On top of technology, it is whether the clinical effect of the product can solve traditional surgical pain points and achieve operational stability, precision, convenience, etc.
In addition, Wang Tianmiao, Honorary Director of the Institute of Robotics from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Sun Lining, Distinguished Professor of Soochow University and Dean of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Soochow University, Song Zhijian, Director of Digital Medicine Research Centre of Fudan University, Wang Yu, Founder of Beijing Rosenbote Technology Co Ltd, Lu Zhentao, Deputy General Manager and Chief Technical Officer of Shenzhen Xinjunte Intelligent Medical Devices Co Ltd, and Chen Weidong, Executive Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Medical Ltd. and Chen Weidong, Executive Vice President of the Institute of Medical Robotics of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, had a lively discussion on the hot topics of orthopaedic surgery robot technology development and product certification.
The experts shared many valuable insights from their own experiences and industry observations. At the heart of all of them is innovation. The key to innovation is to truly address the pain points of doctors and transfer their experience to the product, creating a modular, platform-based, intelligent surgical robot that closes the loop on the entire process. In addition, the experts also talked about the core of surgical robot development, which is to be "small and specialised", not "general". It is important to be able to "send charcoal in the snow", not just "add flowers to the cake". Specifically, it is important to select surgical procedures that are in immediate clinical need and are difficult to perform, so that the surgical robotics can truly solve clinical pain points. On this basis, we will continue to iterate on our product software technology and explore a wider scope for development.
The forum brought together the wisdom of many experts from the academic, clinical and industrial sectors, and experts shared and exchanged profound insights and collided ideas on topics such as the cutting-edge technology of orthopaedic surgical robots, the current situation of the industry and development prospects. The development of the orthopaedic surgery robot industry cannot be achieved without the efforts of all colleagues from upstream and downstream of the industry chain, and requires all sectors of society to integrate the most advantageous resources and strengths at home and abroad to jointly promote the breakthrough development of the orthopaedic surgery robot industry. We believe that with the joint efforts of everyone, orthopaedic surgery robot technology will continue to progress and improve, providing better medical services for patients.
