Hannes Bleuler obtained his PhD at ETH Zurich in 1984 on mechatronics, spent six years at the University of Tokyo and was professor of robotics at EPFL Lausanne from 1995 to 2019. Projects included high precision mechatronics, but were mainly centered on biomedical technology, surgical instrumentation and exoskeletons. The human-machine interface and, specifically, haptic interaction were among the topics of interest of about 30 PhDs supervised at his robotics lab of EPFL.
